Mill produces the electric energy required for its operation
Designed to be self-sufficient in energy, Veracel mill produces all the electricity needed for its operation – 900,000 MWh per year.
The fuel used by the company to feed the turbo-generator is waste from the pulp manufacturing process, such as black liquor – resulting from cooking eucalyptus wood – and wood chips not used in pulp production.
Therefore, Veracel generates 120 megawatts/hour of clean, renewable energy. Under normal operation, the mill uses 65% of the electric energy produced – enough to meet the demand of 400 thousand inhabitants in the Far South of Bahia – and directs the exceeding energy to the market. Therefore, the company does not represent an overload to the regional power supply grid.
