| Classified as a lowland dense ombrophilous forest, the existing biodiversity in the Veracel Station RPPN is associated to high temperatures (average 23 °C), moist climate (86%) and an area of abundant rainfall. The region receives regular rainfall all year long (1,797 mm per year), with no water shortage. Such factors, associated to the high solar incidence of tropical areas, favor the rich and rare biodiversity found in the region. About 80% of the RPPN area is covered with primary Atlantic Forest, that is, environments with little anthropic (human) influence. Veracel Station is an important reserve of water springs for the Discovery Coast neighboring municipalities. Protecting that forest means preserving the basins of rivers Mangues, Ronca Agua and Camurugi, in addition to 115 water sources existing in the area, among them the riverheads of Jardim and Mutari, with historic value as the first fresh water source Pedro Alvares Cabral found upon the arrival of his fleet to the Brazilian coast. The Veracel Station RPPN surrounding area is inhabited by rural producer families, low income urban population and Pataxo-descendent indigenous reserves.
