The RPPN is regarded as one of the 20 areas with the highest diversity of tree plants on the planet. The region was once called the "Bahia Hilaea", as, in addition to typical Atlantic Forest species, it features other species which are characteristic to the Amazon Forest such as inga (Inga sp), lecythis (Lecythis sp) and jucara palm (Euterpe edulis). There are also a large number of timber trees, palms, orchids, heliconias and bromeliads. In addition, there are many rare and endangered species such as carianina (Cariniana sp), couepia (Couepia sp), brauna (Melanoxylum sp), sucupira (Bowdichia sp) and bauhinia (Bauhinia smilacina). Among the vegetal formations occurring at the Veracel Station RPPN, there is the muçununga, a sandy soft ecosystem with species such as carobinha (Jacaranda obovata), tabebuia (Tabebuia roseo-alba) and bracken (Pteridium aquilinum). There are also tableland forests, so called due to their plateaus, as well as riparian evergreen forests which are typical to the valleys with plateaus. Among the characteristic species are jatoba (Hymenaea rubriflora) and jucara palm (Euterpe edulis). See table Intensity of the Occrence
