With a goal of disseminating the production of wood on the part of farmers in the region, we established a forestry partners program. The program offers an alternative for the use of land and the generation of income for the participants. Furthermore, it reduces the company's need to acquire new land for the planting of eucalyptus trees since it also makes it possible for third parties to produce wood destined for our mill.

The model we adopted encourages the multiple use of property. We finance the cost of the operations and, as further incentive, we supply seedlings, formicides, fertilizers and technical assistance.

We also are concerned about preservation of the native forests on the property of the farmers who participate in the program. The contracts with Veracel only are signed after the properties have received environmental licenses and include requirements that the participating farmer comply with environmental legislation.

In December 2004, the area involved in the forestry partners program totaled 10,000 hectares, through 59 contracts. The properties were located an average of 52 km from the mill and their average size was 167 hectares.
