The mill’s project took into account strict international environmental management guidelines applicable to its operations. The industrial unit was licensed by the environmental agencies of the state of Bahia — the State Environmental Council (CEPRAM) and the Environmental Resources Center (CRA) — fully complying with their requirements.
We invested US$ 57.6 million in different environmental prevention and control systems in the construction of our manufacturing unit. Among the equipment adopted, of particular note is the liquid effluent treatment system, which employs modern activated mud technology, ensuring levels of emissions that are lower than mandatory standards.
Furthermore, we installed latest generation electrostatic precipitators that block the emission of particulates through the mill’s chimney. Gases deriving from sulfur, common to the pulp production process, are collected, treated and burned in the boilers, reducing the emission of odors.
These systems, controlled by computer in real time, offer the necessary conditions to enable our operators to take the immediate steps necessary in the event of any operating or equipment failure.
