In order to ship its pulp production, Veracel makes use of the Belmonte Marine Terminal. From the terminal, the product is embarked for Portocel, in Espírito Santo, from where it is exported.
The marine transportation system, using ocean-going barges to Portocel, reduces the volume of trucks on the highways because one barge hauls 7,000 tons, the same amount carried by 130 trucks. Besides reducing fuel consumption, this mode of transportation makes the highways in the region safer.
The Belmonte Marine Terminal has a pulp warehouse with capacity to store 14,000 tons, support buildings and barge berthing and standby systems.
Three barges and a tugboat were built and operate on a rotating system making it possible to transport up to 1,150,000 tons of pulp per year.
