Industrial Operations

Technology

foto projetoVeracel is the result of the technological knowledge of two of the leaders of the paper and pulp industry. Aracruz, the largest producer of short fiber market pulp in the world, and Stora Enso, the largest producer of paper and card in the world.

The engineering project was prepared in 3D format and we used process simulators to test the mill’s operation even before construction was initiated. Besides detecting possible defects, this system made it possible to train operators and maintenance work teams using programs that were identical to those being used at the mill, months before the startup of operations.

Designed to be energy self-sufficient, the mill produces all of the power needed for its operation - the equivalent to the requirements of a city of 400,000 inhabitants. The fuel that we use in the turbo-generator consists of residues from the pulp manufacturing process, such as black liquor and wood biomass.

In order to maintain the equipment under control, we also use high technology resources. Most of the controls work in real time, using devices that directly measure the process, providing information regarding pulp whiteness and specific weight, for instance.

The mill also is equipped with a firefighting system using the highly protected risk (HPR) technology, which significantly reduces the possibilities for shutdowns. We also installed converging telephone and internet systems and the Veracel unit is one of the first to use this technology.
