Veracel to develop local suppliers - 01.16.04
In partnership with the Federation of Industries of the State Bahia (FIEB), Sebrae and the Chamber of Shop Managers (CDL), Veracel is introducing its Suppliers Development Program (PDFV). The objective is to increase the participation of companies from the state of Bahia, especially those located in the municipalities under the influence of Veracel, as suppliers of goods and services for the pulp mill.
"In 2002, the acquisitions made by Veracel surpassed R$ 97.5 million, with 22% of them through merchants in Eunápolis and 55% in other cities in the state. In 2003, there was more than R$ 166 million in purchases, with 52% from suppliers located in Eunápolis and 27% from companies around the state," reported Supplies Manager Augusto Belo. The remainder, respectively 23% and 21% in the two years, was acquired from companies located outside of the state of Bahia. Belo said that more than 660 Bahian companies already have issued invoices to Veracel. "The installation of this manufacturing unit coupled with the initiatives of the PDFV will raise the volume of regional business substantially," he added.
The PDFV, introduced officially on January 13 in Eunápolis to over 300 Bahian businessmen, is the result of a protocol of intention signed last August between Veracel, which is committed to the sustainable development of the region, and FIEB, which seeks to make it possible for Bahian companies to participate in construction and operation of manufacturing facilities. The program involves the training and fostering of local suppliers, contributing to the reduction of costs for customers while generating jobs and income in the region. The sectors that are most involved include fabrication and assembly, construction, surveys, projects and consulting, services, and industry and commerce in general.
