Veracel delivers the Gravatá Ecological Park - 09.23.04
In commemoration of Tree Day (September 21) Veracel gave a present to the community of Eunápolis: the Gravatá Municipal Ecological Park, the city’s first leisure area and first project for recovery of an Atlantic Forest area within city limits. Upon inauguration of the park, the facility came under city government administration.
The Gravatá Ecological Park covers 68,000 m2 of land, donated by a Eunápolis company. A multipurpose kiosk was built on the site along with an entrance gate and office, running track, sand-covered sports courts, public bathrooms and lighting. Furthermore, 8,000 seedlings of 40 different original plant and tree species were planted on the property. Previously, the area did not contain a single tree and was entirely covered by weeds. One of the headwaters of Gravatá Creek originates on the property, lending its name to the project.
According to Veracel environmental specialist Danilo Sette, the recovery of the property involving the planting of seedlings and cleanup of the spring will bring about benefits for nature. "This will contribute to the protection of Gravatá Creek, for soil conservation and will attract wildlife to the area," he explained. "But it also is important that residents, for their own benefit, help conserve the park, protecting the trees and not throwing garbage into the lake," said Zeila Piotto, the company’s environmental manager.
