Contractors begin negotiation with mill construction workers - 11.10.04
Due to the work stoppage by employees of construction contractors involved in building the Veracel Celulose S/A pulp mill, the company was informed today that negotiations have begun between representatives of the workers and the contractors.
Although it does not participate directly in the talks, it is concerned about how the discussions are going and for that reason, Veracel met with representatives of the National Paper Workers Union (Sinap) and the Bahia Pulp and Paper Workers Union (Sindicelpa). On the agenda were work issues protected under labor law.
Veracel will reinforce its condition that construction contractors fully comply with all legal requirements, the majority of which already are contained in contracts that have been signed with the contractors. These requirements are in step with the company’s principles and sustainability policies.
It is expected that high-minded attitudes shall prevail among the negotiators and that they will quickly reach a favorable resolution of the issues for all the parties involved.
