Thirteen public entities or non-profit organizations located in municipalities in Veracel's area of influence have each received a vehicle donated by the company. The official delivery of the vehicles took place on November 17, in Eunápolis. "Today, we have a very elliptical arch, including organizations devoted to security, social action and support of indigenous nations, which is a motive of great pride for all of us," said Veracel’s president, Vitor Costa.

The entities that received the vehicles were: Apae of Eunápolis, the Cruz de Malta Day Care Center (in Vera Cruz, Porto Seguro), the Capitu Project (in Eunápolis), the Civil Police of Belmonte, Itapebi, Itagimirim, Eunápolis and Porto Seguro, Military Police of Porto Seguro, the Indigenous Mission of Monte Pascoal, the Pataxó Indian Reservation of Jaqueira, the Pastoral da Saúde of Eunápolis and the Civil Defense of Porto Seguro. Four Toyota Hilux, three Gols, five Uno Milles and a Fiorino were donated, previously used by Veracel for its activities.

Padre Eclério de Paula, priest of the Nossa Senhora Auxiliadora Church in Eunápolis, who represented three of the organizations receiving vehicles (Indigenous Mission of Monte Pascoal, Cruz de Malta Day Care Center and the Pastoral da Saúde) said that Veracel "has understood the vision for the work of these three entities and contributed for them to continue to carry out their efforts."

The Chief of Civil Defense of Porto Seguro, Lindalane Casas, noted that the municipality was still living under a state of emergency because of the heavy rains in the month of May. "This car will be a great help in our work to reverse the situation."

"Veracel is a company that has complied with its social role," added Maria de Lourdes Vieira Nascimento, president of the Capitu Project, which helps cancer patients. "I hope that Veracel will serve as an example for social commitment for other companies and let us minimize the social inequalities in our city," she said.

For her part, the president of the Pataxó Indian reservation in Jaqueira, Nilcélia dos Santos, emphasized the importance of the partnership between Veracel and the reservation, a well-known destination in the Porto Seguro area where visitors can learn about the Pataxó traditions.

Other donations

This is not the first time that Veracel has donated vehicles for the well-being and safety of the community. In March of last year, three other vehicles were donated to the Military Police in Eunápolis, Itapebi and Barrolândia. At the time, two entire police stations were built and furnished by the company in Itapebi and Barrolândia, a district of Belmonte located 18 Km from the site of the pulp mill the company is building.
