Veracel receives first eucalyptus shipment - 12.13.04
On December 13, Veracel received its first shipment of eucalyptus wood. A total of 200 tons of eucalyptus logs were delivered to the mill’s wood yard by four trucks. “We are initiating the supply process, which represents an important conquest in the work we have been carrying out for the past 12 years when the Veracel project began,” said Forestry Director Antonio Sergio Alípio, speaking on behalf of the entire team.
The synergies developed between the forest and industrial processes were singled out for particular mention by both Alípio and his manufacturing counterpart, Walter Martins. “This strengthens Veracel’s competitiveness as the lowest cost pulp mill in its segment in the country follows “stated Martins. “Everything is prepared in terms of raw material supply.”
The first eucalyptus shipment will be used to test the functioning of the wood chipping equipment. The wood will subsequently be transformed into biomass, which will generate energy.
The wood patio, were the shipment of logs was unloaded, has the capacity to stockpile approximately 63,000 tons, a quantity that is sufficient to supply the mill for one week. When the facility is ready, Veracel is expected to receive a daily flow of 185 trucks, each one carrying about 50 tons of logs.
