Veracel launches external newspaper and expands channels of communication - 12.17.04
Veracel Comunidade is introduced with a print run of 30,000 copies and will be distributed in 10 municipalities in the company’s area of influence
Veracel Comunidade, a newspaper created by Veracel’s Institutional Relations Department, has arrived. The aim of the new publication is to increase the channels of communication between the company and its stakeholders and to encourage relationships and an exchange of information about topics of common interest between the company and the residents of the municipalities of Belmonte, Canavieiras, Eunápolis, Guaratinga, Itabela, Itagimirim, Itapebi, Mascote, Porto Seguro and Santa Cruz Cabrália, where the company has its activities.
Veracel Comunidade’s initial circulation will be 30,000 copies a month. An 8-page publication, it has a 29 x 30 cm format and is printed on newsprint with a four-color cover and back cover. Besides information about the company’s activities, especially regarding social, environmental and economic questions related to its forestry and manufacturing activities, the newspaper will also publicize socially and environmentally responsible initiatives of local organizations and individuals, helping improve the quality of life in the communities and publicizing information that is in the public interest.
The distribution of the publication varies from city to city. In Barrolândia and Ponto Central, which are respectively districts within Belmonte and Santa Cruz Cabrália, for example, the distribution will be door-to-door because of their close proximity to the pulp mill. In the other cities and main districts and rural zones, Veracel Comunidade will be available in commercial establishments and locations of considerable movement such as schools, banks, barber shops, taxi stands, bus stops, municipal offices, health clinics, etc.
A special distribution scheme was prepared for the newspaper for owners of properties neighboring the mill and for more isolated residents. This initiative means move relationship opportunities with the local inhabitants, more effectively contributing to the understanding of the companies actions and ensuring that more people learn about them.
Currently, institutional publicity and citizenship campaigns are being run in newspapers, radio stations, news sites and television in the region. For its part, Veracel has other external communications outlets such as the Veranews online newsletter and its Internet site (www.veracel.com.br). In-house, the company produces Veragora (a newspaper aimed at the community of construction workers who are building the mill), an intranet and bulletin boards.
