New Enterprises Count on the Support of Bahian Suppliers

Started some six months ago, Veracel mill is an example of how such an enterprise can add value to the economy of Bahia. Figures are significant; during the construction of the mill, goods and services worth one billion reals were purchased from companies established in Bahia. Today, with the company operational, Veracel purchases in the state are something around 100 million reals per year.

The enterprise attracted to the region other investments amounting to approximately 100 million dollars. Some examples include EKA Bahia, a chemicals manufacturer, and several other materials, service and equipment suppliers. It is worth mentioning that most of the service and materials suppliers are companies that were created in Bahia or that came to the state, generating jobs and paying taxes in the state.

This shows not only the priority that Veracel gave to local suppliers but also the high level of competitiveness of Bahian companies that were selected based on their experience, technical quality and pricing policies.

The success of PDFV (Veracel Supplier Development Program), which the company developed in partnership with FIEB (Industry Federation of the State of Bahia), SEBRAE (Support Service for Small & Medium-Sized Businesses), SESI (Industry Social Service), municipal authorities and other organizations, also shows the interest of small and medium-sized companies in participating in the project. This program enabled Veracel and the involved organizations to identify and select potential and capable suppliers to meet the enterprise demands by developing and improving some issues that needed enhancement.

More and more we see that large projects are implemented in Bahia because they find a favorable environment. This is something that the pulp and paper industry can vouch in view of the new and important investments that are being made in our state and that are using several companies that have gained experience by providing services to Veracel when it was being built.
