Technical inspection evaluates accident at Veracel
Veracel informs the occurrence of an accident with seven victims without any severity and without any environmental impact, registered at the evening of Friday 21st September, in its mill site, Eunapolis. All the victims were leaded to the company clinic and released just after, as they only have presented slight burnings of liquor sprinkles.
The company is evaluating the causes of the event, occurred in on of the tanks of black liquor (substance used in pulp production), which provoked the rupture and the displacement of the tank cover, with fluid leakage. Of a viscous consistency, the substance was contained in the areas near the tank.
The cleaning process started in this weekend. Although the mill is already in conditions to start operations with security, Veracel only will start up after concluding the technical inspection being made by many specialists.
The black liquor is not toxic and do not offers risks to employees not even the community. The substance is resultant from the wood cooking process to dissolve the lignine and separate the fibers. From it, the water evaporates and the rest is used for burning (power generation), besides making possible to recover the agents used in the cooking process.
