Veracel donates area in the municipality of Itagimirim
Veracel Celulose donated 60,000 square meters of land located on the side of the BR-101 highway to the municipal government of Itagimirim. Buildings used as accommodations for workers at the time of the construction of the pulp mill some two years ago are located on this land. The donation, which will benefit more than 7,000 inhabitants of the municipality, was under negotiation with the city government for some time. On September 18, the negotiations were concluded, culminating with the signing of a term of donation by Mayor Giovanni Brilliantino at the city land registration office.
The area contains full infrastructure: basic sanitation, fully delimited streets and five buildings, and is near a police station. "It is up to the city to decide what to do with the land. Our intention is to benefit to communities in which we are located through these kinds of actions," said Paulo Ferreira, Veracel's coordinator of institutional affairs.
According to the mayor, an industrial complex will be set up on the site.
