Quality education is synonymous with training

A planning workshop is taught to Ponto Central educators

fotoThe community of Ponto Central, a district of Santa Cruz Cabrália, was the site of a planning workshop taught to teachers and directors of local schools. The event (part of a larger project - the Education Program) was run on October 5 at the Maria Figueiredo Marinho municipal school, under the auspices of the Veracel Program for the Support of Municipal Education. The workshop is only the beginning of a series of actions to promote new meetings and develop products aimed at enhancing education in the district.

The planning workshops are a methodological alternative adjusted for different levels of teaching, capable of favoring learning of many different subjects. "We encourage integration and we're beginning to see the overall self-evaluation of education professionals. The participants debate, create group dynamics in the preparation of their opinions and at the end present results," stated Maria Luíza F. Silveira, sociologist, WPM development consultant and the workshop coordinator.

This is the first step. At a second stage, a new workshop will be scheduled so that the educators can prepare to plan their teaching routines, and align them with the new knowledge that has been obtained. "In the next meeting, we will work on participatory planning. It is through this type of planning that the educators will identify which actions and enhancements are needed to qualify teaching in their schools. What is interesting is that many begin to perceive that send requirements must be provided by them themselves, without outside help," said Ms. Silveira.

Desire to learn

For the teachers, the Veracel initiative is a unique opportunity to learn and exchange experiences. "The workshop is excellent, this opportunity is much better than just obtaining teaching materials. The knowledge will never being taken away from us. The workshop is a great way to begin the program, we will better understand our reality. What would really be good would be not to stop this year but to continue on into next year," said Maria Alice Borges, director of the Maria Carvalho do Nascimento Infantile Education School.

The director of the school where the workshop was held, Aldecir Nascimento da Silva, is satisfied and believes that the meeting is an opportunity to re-evaluate conduct. "The workshop came at the right time. I believe that it will be a way of rethinking our actions in the next school year. I am adoring it, I think the content is excellent and I am certain that I will use it during the classes and during my work with my colleagues," he stated.

The Veracel Program for the Support of Municipal Education already was successfully implemented in Porto Seguro and Eunápolis. At Mascote, União Baiana, Guaratinga, Itapebi and Barrolândia, the actions and the workshops are being conducted in parallel. The idea of the company is to train the educators in the places where they live, in order to contribute to the growth of their communities.
