We are Veracel Cellulose, a Brazilian bioeconomy company that produces eucalyptus fiber-based cellulose in a sustainable way. Altogether, our operations cover 11 municipalities in the Costa do Descobrimento region in the extreme south of Bahia. Our shareholders are the Brazilian company Suzano and the Finnish company Stora Enso, both with tradition in the cellulose and paper production.<\/p>

Our researchers select the best eucalyptus shoots arriving at the nursery for cultivation and adaptation and then take them to the field as seedlings for planting.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

EUCALYPTUS PLANTING<\/h3><\/div>
After preparing the soil, our planting machines place and fertilize the seedlings. During the growth period, we carry out maintenance, monitoring and cleaning activities in the area.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

HARVEST<\/h3><\/div>
Our harvesting structures are made up of containers adapted to serve as an administrative, food and warehouse support point for the teams. Our forest machine operators cut and prepare the eucalyptus trees for transport.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

WOOD TRANSPORT<\/h3><\/div>
Special trucks transport the eucalyptus logs from the harvesting area to our factory, where the wood will undergo an industrial process for cellulose extraction.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

FACTORY<\/h3><\/div>
The eucalyptus logs are cut into small pieces (chips), which are cooked at high temperature and pressure until obtaining the brown cellulose pulp that will be bleached through washing and chemical treatments and after dried using press and hot air steam to form the cellulose sheet. After drying, the cellulose sheet is cut, and the bales are packed for transport.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

FROM BAHIA TO THE WORLD<\/h3><\/div>
The cellulose sheets are transported by truck to the BELMONTE MARITIME TERMINAL (Terminal Mar\u00edtimo de Belmonte or TMB, in Portuguese). There, the cellulose sheets are loaded onto barges and taken to Portocel, in Esp\u00edrito Santo. From Portocel, they are sent to international markets to produce tissue paper, writing papers and special papers.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

A lot of people ask who “owns” Veracel. In fact, Veracel Celulose has two shareholders, Stora Enso (a Swedish-Finned company) and Suzano (a Brazilian company). Both companies hold 50% each and are market leaders, stating sustainability is a key part of their business strategies.<\/p>

Stora Enso is a leading supplier of renewable products for packaging, biomaterials, wood and paper manufacturing, and one of the largest owners of private forests worldwide.<\/p>

Suzano is a 100% Brazilian company and a global benchmark for the development of products made from eucalyptus planting, as well as one of the largest vertically integrated producers of paper and eucalyptus pulp in Latin America.<\/p>
